He founded his own agency, Home – where he did his first work for Nike – and then did a 15-year stint at Wieden+Kennedy Amsterdam. Eventually José stepped up to the role of creative director for Nike sportswear, and then in 2016 he defected to another sportswear giant: these days he works as global director of creative concept and storytelling at adidas Group, based in the brand’s Brooklyn Creator Farm.

Born in Angola in 1998, Rafael describes himself as an “afrofuturist, multidisciplinary visual artist of the diaspora,” expressing his “vision of the world through photography,” and using “image manipulation to create new visual perspectives and engage with humanity.” At the age of six, he picked up a camera and began to photograph anything that caught his attention. In 2016 he moved to motion pictures, and stepped from behind the lens to in front of it, as an actor in the short film “A Terceira Metade” (“The Third Half”), and for this work he received a nomination for Best Actor in Short Film – National Competition. He studied Cinema and Television at Lisbon’s Escola de Tecnologias, Inovação e Criação (ETIC) from 2018 to 2020, specialising in videoclips and documentary film. Most recently, he has exhibited as part of the projects “From A Distance Calling” (2021) and “Our (Spatial) Stories Live in Performative Futures” (2022) at HANGAR (Centro de Investigação Artistica), in Lisbon.

Founded in 1983 in São Paulo by brothers Fernando (1961) and Humberto Campana (1953), Estudio Campana became famous for its furniture design and the creation of intriguing pieces – such as the Vermelha and Favela armchairs – and for its continuous growth in the areas of Interior Design, Architecture, Landscaping, Scenography and Fashion, among others. Their work incorporates the idea of transformation, reinvention and the integration of traditional crafts into mass production: making everyday items that are less valuable and common more precious, with pieces that are not only creative in their design, but that also exude Brazilian characteristics – colours, mixtures, creative chaos and the success of simple solutions. The ideas created by Estudio Campana’s team are materialized by national and international companies, and they also produce their own line of limited and numbered editions of unique pieces, which are often produced in partnership with communities and NGOs. These special editions are represented by international galleries, including Carpenters Workshop Gallery, Friedman Benda Gallery, Firma Casa and Galleria O. Roma. Campana pieces integrate the permanent collections of renowned cultural institutions such as MoMA New York; the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris; the Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein; the Museum of Modern Art in São Paulo and the Musée Les Arts Décoratifs, in Paris. The Campana brothers were awarded Designer of the Year by Design Miami in 2008 and Designers of the Year by Maison & Objet in 2012. That same year, they were selected for the Comité Colbert Prize in Paris; distinguished by the Beijing Design Week; received the Order of Cultural Merit in Brasilia, and were bestowed the Order of Arts and Letters by the French Government. In 2013, they were listed among the 100 most influential Brazilian people by Forbes magazine. In 2014 and 2015 Wallpaper* magazine listed them, correspondingly, among the 100 and 200 greatest design professionals.
